[Solved] OO 4.1.0 on Mac OS X 10.6.8

Issues installing under the Mac OSX - X11 - Aqua

[Solved] OO iv.one.0 on Mac OS X 10.6.viii

After receiving notification of the availability of Open Office four.one.0, in which it was stated that the update was suitable for Mac OS 10 10.three onwards, I downloaded the relevant file … noting that information technology stated:
"Download Apache OpenOffice four.1.0
Click here to download (hosted by Sourceforge.net) for:
Mac Bone Ten (10.half-dozen or older) and English (British) | ~159 MByte | Released: 2014-Apr-29".

Still when I attempted to run the instal, a message was displayed indicating that this could not proceed equally my version of Mac OS 10 was not suitable - I run OS X 10.six.8.

I hope that the erroneous bulletin will past now have been corrected.

OO four.1 does _not_ work on Mac ten.vi.8. You demand to return to 4.0.1; please download it over again from this link:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/openoff ... g/download

(wait 5 seconds for the download to beginning later you click the link)

Practise does this mean that Snow Leopard is no longer supported? Is 4.0.1 the end of the line?

It seems rather odd that a Java awarding should be so dependent on operating system version.

In whatsoever case, if 4.0.1 is the end of the line, it would be squeamish if I didn't see messages telling me to upgrade.

Unless y'all have a rather old Mac, you can first upgrade to Mavericks (10.9); it's complimentary from Apple tree. So you tin can install AOO releases beyond 4.1.0. If you tin can't/don't upgrade OS X, then you're probably stuck until you buy new hardware. Bank check Mac resources on the spider web if you need assistance determining if you tin can upgrade, or if y'all demand assistance installing Mavericks.

If this answered your question please get to your first post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the kickoff of the title. You can select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

Simply some sections of OpenOffice utilize Java.

From the release notes at

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/dis ... ease+Notes

"Annotation: Mac users should exist aware that with this release Apache OpenOffice is a 64-bit application and requires Mac OSX 10.7 or in a higher place."

Information technology seems rather odd that a Coffee application should be so dependent on operating organization version.

Apache OpenOffice is not a Java application.

In any case, if 4.0.one is the stop of the line, it would be nice if I didn't see messages telling me to upgrade.

Both the release notes (see above) and the system requirements,

http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/sour ... aoo41.html

, state that Mac OS 10 ten.7 (King of beasts) or higher is required.

Although my hardware can run King of beasts, Lion is a grunter (compared to Snowfall Leopard) and even if it wasn't I *hate* the interface changes. Much of that was fixed in Mountain Panthera leo, but my hardware can't run that.

I've been planning to upgrade for a while now, but honestly, with an SSD and maxed out RAM my MacBook Pro (2,1) is still more than acceptable. I am also one of the few people who seems to similar a 17" laptop whatever more than, and I am not terribly interested in shelling out for a new machine until I absolutely have to if it means downgrading to a 15" screen.

I've got to say that I'm really sad that just when Open up Office starts to get truly usable I tin can't run the latest version whatsoever more.

So but continue using the version of Speedily OpenOffice that you take. It is much more recent than your figurer and operating arrangement. I am happy using an older version on my 2nd reckoner, a MacBook running Snow Leopard.

I utilize Snowfall Leopard because I *adopt* it, not because I like running old software. Snow Leopard is low-cal and fast, faster than anything that came before it and faster than anything that has come since. I really don't like what happened with the iOS-ification of Bone/Ten and I take still to observe a single feature in newer versions that makes me want to upgrade.

Open Function, on the other hand, has seen substantial improvements in every release and It has only been rather recently that I've considered information technology truly usable (although I have been using it since it was chosen Star Role...)

If this is really the end, *PLEASE* find a manner to stop the encarmine annoying popular-ups that keep telling me to upgrade.

It is already there in your preferences. Did you expect? The selection has been in that location as long as I remember.
On the menu bar click on 'OpenOffice'
Click on 'Preferences'
In the window that opens go to OpenOffice/Online Updates
Under "Online Update Options" uncheck "Check for updates automatically"

I wonder nigh this.
I accept OS 10.half dozen.8 on my MacBook Pro from 2009 and I always thought this is a 64 Bit machine, I still think it.
And then I don't empathise why OO 4.1 doesn't run on information technology, both 64 Bit.
Why?

Considering AOO 4.i requires Os X ver.ten.seven or newer. It won't run on older versions of OS X.

Didn't y'all sympathise my answer?
AOO four.i requires OS X ver.10.7 or newer. The operating organization requirement is independent from it existence a 64 scrap app. Many electric current applications for Macs require Os X ver.7 or newer.

No, I didn't empathise your answer because I read in the Full general Remarks of the AOO four.1 Release notes this sentence:

Notation: Mac users should be enlightened that with this release Apache OpenOffice is a 64-bit application and requires Mac OSX ten.seven or above.

I read this like this: As it is a 64-bit application it requires Mac Bone 10.seven. This is the thing I don't understand. OS 10.6 is 64-bit as well, I don't understand the logic in this remark.

The underlying routines in the before operating arrangement don't adjust the electric current version of OpenOffice. If yous have knowledge of Mac OSes, the OpenOffice software source lawmaking is available and you might patch information technology to suit your operating system. I'm sure there will exist OpenOffice developer help available should you decide to do this.

You should work on your reading comprehension. Would this be easier for you to comprehend?

1. Apache OpenOffice is a 64-bit awarding.
2. Apache OpenOffice requires Mac OSX 10.seven or above.
